Since iOS 18, Control Center has multiple pages, resizable controls, and drag-and-drop. That means you can add the Screen Recording control and also put it exactly where your thumb expects it.
Add screen recording
- Swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center.
- Tap + (top-left) or touch and hold an empty space.
- Tap Add a Control, search Screen Recording, and tap it.
On iOS 17 and earlier, it's Settings > Control Center > + next to Screen Recording.
Move it to the first page
New controls sometimes land on a later page of Control Center. To move it:
- Enter edit mode (tap + or touch and hold an empty space).
- Touch and drag the Screen Recording control to where you want it.
- Drag it to the edge of the screen to move it between pages.
Putting it on the first page, near the top, means one swipe and one tap to start recording.
Resize it
In edit mode, drag the handle on the control's corner to make it bigger or smaller. A larger control is easier to hit quickly. Useful if you record often.
Remove it
In edit mode, tap the minus on the control. You can add it back any time.
Other places to add it
- Lock Screen: on iOS 18 and later, customize the Lock Screen and swap the flashlight or camera control for Screen Recording.
- Action button: on iPhones with one, go to Settings > Action Button > Controls > Screen Recording.
