Audio extraction guide

Get the audio out of a screen recording.

Screen recordings often carry the part you actually need in the sound: a voiceover, a meeting, a song, or a voice note. This tool saves just that audio as a file you can play, edit, or share anywhere.

MP3 or WAV?

Pick MP3 to share, upload, or listen; it's about a tenth of the size. Pick WAV when you'll edit the audio in GarageBand, Audacity, or a video editor, since it keeps every detail.

Which MP3 quality?

128 kbps is plenty for speech. 192 kbps suits most music and video soundtracks. 320 kbps is the highest MP3 quality, at a larger file size.

Only need one part?

Drag the handles over the section you want, or play the video and press Start here and End here. Only that part is saved.

Recording without sound?

If the file has no audio track, there's nothing to extract. On iPhone, long-press the screen recording button and turn the microphone on. See does screen recording record audio.

FAQ

Video to MP3 questions

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. The audio is decoded and encoded by your browser on your own device. Your video never leaves your device.

Can I convert a screen recording to MP3?

Yes. iPhone, Android, Mac, and Windows screen recordings all work, as long as they were recorded with sound.

What MP3 quality should I choose?

192 kbps suits most videos. Use 128 kbps for speech to keep files small, or 320 kbps for the best music quality.

Does it work on iPhone?

Yes, in an up-to-date Safari. On phones the limit is 1 GB per video.

Is there a watermark or length limit?

No watermark and no account. You can extract up to 3 hours of audio at a time.
