Why are front camera videos mirrored?

The front camera preview shows you a mirror image, because that's what feels natural when you look at yourself. Some phones and apps save the video the same way, mirrored, so text on your shirt or a sign behind you reads backwards. Others save the true, unmirrored view. Which you get depends on the phone, the app, and a setting.

How do I unmirror a video on iPhone?

  1. Open the video in Photos and tap Edit.
  2. Tap Crop.
  3. Tap the flip button (two triangles) in the top corner.
  4. Tap Done.

Apple's crop, rotate, and flip guide shows the button. You can undo it anytime with Edit > Revert.

How do I stop iPhone mirroring front camera videos?

Go to Settings > Camera and look at Mirror Front Camera. When it's on, iPhone saves selfies the way they looked in the preview, mirrored. When it's off, it saves the true view, where text reads correctly. Apple explains the setting in its selfie guide. It affects new photos and videos only.

How do I unmirror a video on Android?

Most Android phones don't offer a flip in the Google Photos editor, so use the browser tool:

  1. Open Rotate & Flip Video in Chrome.
  2. Pick the video.
  3. Tap Flip horizontally.
  4. Tap Export MP4.

To change future recordings, open your camera app's settings and look for an option like Save selfies as previewed, Mirror, or Flip front camera. Samsung and Pixel phones each name it slightly differently.

How do I unmirror a video on a computer?

On Mac, QuickTime's Edit > Flip Horizontal does it, per Apple's QuickTime guide. On Windows, Clipchamp's clip menu has Flip horizontal. Or use the browser tool on either. More in how to flip a video.

Should I unmirror my selfie videos?

Your video hasUnmirror?
Text, logos, or signsYes, so they read correctly
You speaking to camera, nothing writtenOptional; mirrored often looks more familiar to you
A product demo with UI on screenYes
A dance or workout others will followOften mirrored is easier to follow

Do video call apps mirror too?

Yes, many show you a mirrored self-view during calls while sending the unmirrored image to others. That's why your shirt's text looks backwards to you but reads correctly to the people on the call. If you record a call and the text looks wrong, check whether you recorded your own preview or the received stream.

Does unmirroring a video lose quality?

No. A horizontal flip doesn't remove any detail. If the video is also sideways, rotate it in the same step; see how to fix a sideways video.
